Generating Energy installed a battery-only energy storage system at a residential property in Formby, Liverpool. The customer wanted to take advantage of cheaper night-time electricity without needing to install solar panels.
The finished system includes a 7kW Sigenergy inverter, 20kWh of battery storage and a Sigenergy Gateway. It allows the customer to charge the battery during lower-cost off-peak periods, use the stored electricity during the day and retain backup capability in the event of a power cut.
The Challenge
The customer wanted greater control over when electricity was purchased from the grid. Rather than buying most of their electricity during higher-priced daytime periods, they wanted to charge a battery overnight and use that stored energy later.
Backup power was another important consideration. The installation also involved a more complex cable route because the inverter and battery were positioned on one side of the property while the electrical connection point was on the other.
Our Solution
We installed a 7kW Sigenergy inverter with 20kWh of battery storage. The capacity provides the customer with a substantial amount of stored electricity that can be charged during cheaper night-time tariff periods and used as household demand increases during the day.
A Sigenergy Gateway was added to provide backup capability when the system is configured for it. If the grid supply is interrupted, the battery can continue supplying designated parts of the property according to the final system configuration.
Our team planned and installed the cable route across the property so it was neat, protected and properly finished. The complete installation took two days, after which the equipment was tested, commissioned and connected to the Sigenergy monitoring app.
The Results
The customer can now store lower-cost off-peak electricity and use it during more expensive periods. The Sigenergy app provides a clear view of battery activity, household consumption and electricity imported from the grid.
The Gateway also gives the homeowner additional reassurance by providing backup capability. From the initial phone call through to commissioning and receipt of the handover pack, the entire project was completed in two weeks.
The customer’s handover documents can be accessed digitally by scanning a QR code fitted to the battery, inverter or consumer unit, removing the need to keep track of a paper pack.
