Replacing an Outdated Solar System with a Modern High-Performance Upgrade in Liverpool

Outdated solar system replaced with a modern 5.85kWp solar PV system and 20kWh battery storage, completed in just 2 days and designed to deliver estimated annual savings of £2,100.

By The Generating Energy Team

We recently completed a full solar upgrade for a customer in Liverpool, replacing their outdated and unreliable solar PV system with a modern high-performance solar and battery storage setup.

The existing system had been in place for years but was no longer operating efficiently. Rather than continuing to invest in repairs, the customer wanted a future-proof replacement that would generate more energy, improve reliability and significantly reduce their electricity bills.

The challenge

The customer already had a solar PV system installed, but it had become unreliable after years of service and was no longer delivering the performance they needed.

Before the new system could be installed, our team also needed to safely remove and dispose of the old solar equipment, making sure the property was ready for a clean, efficient replacement installation.

The upgraded solar system installed

Our in-house installation team removed the old system and installed 13 high-efficiency 450W solar panels, giving the property a total solar PV system size of 5.85kWp. The new solar array was designed to give the customer a major improvement in generation, helping them produce more of their own renewable electricity and reduce how much power they need to import from the grid.

As part of the upgrade, we also installed a 20kWh battery storage system to maximise self-consumption. The battery stores surplus electricity generated during the day, allowing the homeowner to use their own solar energy during the evening and overnight instead of buying electricity from the grid.

The full project was completed in just 2 days by our own in-house team. This included safely removing the old non-functioning solar system, installing the new 13-panel array, fitting the 20kWh battery storage system, commissioning and testing the installation, setting up the monitoring app and providing a full customer handover.

The results

The customer now has a modern solar and battery storage system designed to generate and store far more of their own electricity.

The completed upgrade included 13 × 450W solar panels, a 5.85kWp system capacity and 20kWh battery storage. The system is expected to save the customer approximately £2,100 per year.

Battery storage plays a major role in improving the value of a solar installation. Without a battery, excess solar energy generated during the day is often exported back to the grid. With a 20kWh battery, the customer can store more of their own renewable electricity and use it when the property needs it most. This increases self-consumption, reduces grid reliance and helps protect against rising energy costs.
