Generating Energy installed a complete solar and battery system at a bungalow in Abergele, Wales. The system was designed to make effective use of the available roof space, reduce the homeowner’s reliance on grid electricity and provide clearer information about energy use across the property.
The finished installation combines a 7.49kWp solar PV array, a 6kW Sigenergy inverter, 5kW of battery storage and a Shelly monitoring device connected to the homeowner’s existing EV charger. Our team installed, tested and commissioned the complete system in two days.
The Challenge
The homeowner wanted to generate a substantial amount of electricity from the available roof space and store spare daytime generation for use later. The system also needed to provide better visibility of electricity consumption, including the energy used by the existing EV charger.
Bungalows can offer a useful amount of roof space for solar, but the panels, inverter, battery and cable routes still needed to be planned carefully. The aim was to create a sizeable system while keeping the finished installation neat and minimising disruption at the property.
Our Solution
We installed 14 × 535W Aiko solar panels, creating a total installed capacity of 7.49kWp. Their high output allowed the homeowner to gain a good level of generation from the available roof area. Electricity produced by the panels can be used directly by appliances and other electrical loads around the bungalow.
A 6kW Sigenergy inverter manages the solar generation and works alongside the 5kW battery storage. When the panels produce more electricity than the property needs, spare energy can be stored and used later as solar generation falls.
We also fitted a Shelly monitoring device to bring the existing EV charger into the Sigenergy monitoring system. The homeowner can now view EV charging consumption alongside solar generation, battery activity and general household electricity use through the Sigenergy app.
The Results
The bungalow now has a complete solar and battery system that can generate electricity throughout the day, store spare energy and reduce the amount of power purchased from the grid. The 7.49kWp array provides substantial generation, while the battery helps the homeowner use more of that electricity within the property.
Bringing EV charger data into the same monitoring app also provides a clearer view of how electricity is being used. The full installation, including the panels, inverter, battery, monitoring equipment and electrical work, was completed in just two days.
