10kWh Battery Storage Upgrade for a Feed-in Tariff Solar System in Broadgreen

Generating Energy added a 6kW Sigenergy inverter and 10kWh battery to an existing Feed-in Tariff solar system in Broadgreen. The original solar installation remained in place, giving the homeowner greater control over stored energy without replacing working equipment.

By The Generating Energy Team

A homeowner in Broadgreen, Liverpool wanted to add battery storage to an older solar PV system installed under the Feed-in Tariff scheme. The existing panels were still working well, so there was no need to remove or replace the original solar installation.

Generating Energy installed a 6kW Sigenergy inverter and 10kWh of battery storage alongside the existing system. The upgrade was designed to give the homeowner greater control over electricity use while keeping the original Feed-in Tariff setup in place.

The Challenge

Many solar systems installed during the Feed-in Tariff period predate the widespread use of home battery storage. Although the customer’s panels were still operating effectively, the property had no way to retain spare energy for use later.

The new battery system needed to be added without unnecessarily replacing working solar equipment. The design also needed to account for the existing Feed-in Tariff arrangement so the original solar system could continue to be measured correctly.

Our Solution

We inspected the existing installation before designing a battery system that could operate alongside it. A 6kW Sigenergy inverter and 10kWh of battery storage were installed while the original Feed-in Tariff solar system remained in place.

The battery allows energy to be stored and used later when the property needs it. Depending on the customer’s electricity tariff and chosen settings, it can also be charged during cheaper off-peak periods for use when electricity prices are higher.

Sigenergy monitoring gives the homeowner a clearer view of battery activity and household energy use. From the initial phone call through to system design, installation and receipt of the final handover pack, the project was completed within three weeks.

The Results

The customer has retained the existing solar installation while adding a modern 10kWh battery system. This provides greater control over household electricity use and reduces the need to purchase as much energy directly from the grid during higher-priced periods.

The project shows how an older Feed-in Tariff solar installation can be upgraded without automatically removing equipment that is still working. The customer also left Generating Energy a 5-star review after the work was completed.
