6.72kWp Commercial Solar and Battery Installation at a Liverpool Football Centre

A Liverpool football centre is saving thousands of pounds each year after Generating Energy installed a 6.72kWp commercial solar PV system with a 7kW Fox inverter and 20kWh of battery storage.

By The Generating Energy Team

Generating Energy installed a commercial solar and battery system at a football centre in Liverpool. The centre uses electricity throughout the day and into the evening, making it well suited to a combination of daytime solar generation and battery storage.

The completed system includes 14 × 480W solar panels, a 7kW Fox inverter and 20kWh of Fox battery storage. Despite the additional cable protection required for the metal roof, our team completed and commissioned the installation in two days.

The Challenge

The football centre had a large metal roof that provided a good area for solar panels, but the installation required careful planning around the external DC cable routes. Sections of cabling needed to cross the roof before reaching the inverter and battery equipment.

Leaving these cables exposed could have made them vulnerable to contact with the metal roof, weather and movement over time. The system also needed to be installed efficiently to minimise disruption at an active commercial site.

Our Solution

Our team installed 14 × 480W solar panels across the available roof space, giving the centre a total solar PV capacity of 6.72kWp. The panels now generate electricity that can be used directly by the centre during daylight hours, helping to cover loads such as lighting, office equipment, changing facilities, heating controls and kitchen equipment.

All external DC cabling was secured and protected using Copex conduit across the metal roof. This provided additional protection while keeping the cable routes neat and practical.

We paired the solar array with a 7kW Fox inverter and 20kWh of Fox battery storage. Spare solar electricity generated during the day can be stored on site and used later, which is particularly valuable when the football centre continues operating into the evening.

The Results

The football centre can now generate electricity from previously unused roof space and use more of that energy within the business. The battery allows spare daytime generation to be retained for periods when electricity demand continues after solar production has fallen.

The system is saving the centre thousands of pounds each year on its electricity costs. It has reduced the amount of grid electricity the business needs to purchase and provides greater control over one of its main ongoing operating expenses.

“The installation was completed in just two days, and the solar and battery system is already helping us cut our electricity costs. The team planned the work around the site and kept the roof cabling neat and properly protected. We’re now making practical use of the roof and storing spare solar electricity for later in the day.”
