At Generating Energy, we believe a solar installation should do more than reduce electricity bills. It should prepare a home for the future. This recent installation in Telford is a great example of that approach.
The homeowner wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid while making sure the property was ready for electric heating and future EV charging. Rather than simply fitting solar panels, we designed a complete energy system that would support the way the home is used now, while also preparing it for future demand.
The Challenge
The homeowner wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid while making sure the property was ready for future changes in energy use. An Air Source Heat Pump was being installed, and although they did not yet own an electric vehicle, they wanted the home prepared for EV charging without needing disruptive work later.
This meant the system had to do more than simply generate solar electricity. It needed to store excess energy, support the home’s future heating requirements, prepare the property for EV charging and allow smarter energy management as electricity demand increased.
Our Solution
Our in-house engineers designed and installed a complete future-ready energy system over 2 days.
The installation included 12 × 455W all-black monocrystalline solar panels, giving the property a total solar PV system size of 5.46kWp. The panels were installed across two roof elevations to spread solar generation across more of the day and improve the opportunity for self-consumption.
To manage the system, we installed a 5kW Sigenergy hybrid inverter paired with 10kWh of Sigenergy battery storage. During the day, solar generation powers the home first, with surplus energy stored in the battery for later use.
We also integrated the electrical supply for the Air Source Heat Pump, installed cabling ready for a future EV charger and fitted a Shelly smart controller to support future EV energy management.
The Results
The homeowner now has a modern energy system designed around both their current and future electricity needs.
The property can generate over 5kW of renewable electricity, store excess energy in a 10kWh battery, support the operation of an Air Source Heat Pump and add EV charging in the future without major additional electrical work.
By planning the installation around future technologies from the outset, the customer has avoided unnecessary future disruption while creating a cleaner, smarter and more flexible home energy setup.
